The arrest of two individuals by the San José Police Department (SJPD) has brought to light a concerning illegal activity taking place in a residential area. Glenn Jingco, 40, and Sophana El, 43, were apprehended after law enforcement officials searched a home on Meadow Glen Way and uncovered a clandestine gambling and drug operation.

The SJPD’s METRO Unit, initially focused on combating drug trafficking in the vicinity, stumbled upon evidence indicating that the suspects were also involved in running an unauthorized gambling establishment on the same premises. This revelation prompted a more extensive investigation, leading to a search warrant being issued. On October 3, 2024, the METRO Unit, supported by the department’s Special Operations MERGE Unit, executed a raid on the property.

Inside the house, authorities discovered a cache of illegal items, including an unregistered homemade firearm, a sawed-off shotgun, assorted ammunition, methamphetamine, and varying amounts of cash. Additionally, they stumbled upon seven large illegal gambling machines and paraphernalia associated with drug use.

Due to their prior criminal histories, both Jingco and El were prohibited from possessing firearms. Consequently, they were taken into custody on the spot and transported to the Santa Clara County Main Jail. The duo is now facing charges related to operating an unlawful gambling and drug enterprise. While one of them remains behind bars without bail, a court appearance is scheduled for October 22, 2024.

Emphasizing the gravity of the situation, the SJPD underscored that illicit gambling establishments often serve as hubs for a range of criminal activities, including drug distribution and weapon possession.
